When is the best time to have a newborn photography session at Ollie and George Photography? I get asked that all the time so I thought I'd write a little blog about it.
The ideal time to have your babies newborn photography session is somewhere between day five and day fourteen, this is because, whilst babies are still this young they are more likely to sleep well and stay settled and their little bones are still very soft which means they will (mostly) be able to be posed in those beautiful curled up poses you see all over the internet.
After around fourteen days baby's skin can become inflamed with baby acne and other conditions.....and then there's colic, a colicky baby may be unhappy to be posed on their tummy as they may be uncomfortable, it can also take longer to settle a colicky baby.
However, I am happy to photograph a newborn up to around three weeks old.
When to book your newborn session?
I always suggest that you book your newborn session after you have had your twenty week scan, however, as soon as you think you may want to have a newborn photo shoot I suggest you contact me so that I can pencil you in. I only take ten newborn sessions a month so availability is quite limited, I do this so that I am sure to have a choice of two or three sessions available to each client. Because I only take a limited number of bookings this does mean that I can often fit in those that haven't even thought about a newborn session until their baby has arrived so please don't hesitate to contact me if you think you've left it too late, I usually have a session free most weeks.
